Overview of 6242 Cooks:
Cooks get ready and cook a wide diversity of foods. They are engaged in central food commissaries, hotels, restaurants, hospitals and other health care institutions, educational institutions and other establishments. Cooks are furthermore employed aboard ships and at building and logging campsites. Apprentice cooks are included in this unit group.

Education and Employment Requirtements of 6242 Cooks:
•Achievement of secondary school is usually required.
•Achievement of a three-year apprenticeship program for cooks
or
Several years of commercial cooking experience are required.
or
Completion of college or other program in cooking


Main duties of 6242 Cooks:
Cooks carry out a number of or all of the following duties:
•Oversee kitchen operations
•Maintain inventory and records of food, supplies and equipment
•May set up and oversee buffets
•May clean kitchen and work area
•May plan menus, determine size of food portions, estimate food requirements and costs, and monitor and order supplies.
•May hire and train kitchen staff
•Cooks may specialize in preparing and cooking ethnic cuisine or special dishes.
•Prepare and cook complete meals or individual dishes and foods
•Prepare and cook special meals for patients as instructed by dietitian or chef
•Schedule and supervise kitchen helpers

  1. This is funny ,we need cooks ans when LMO are done ,cooks dont get visa in India.We opened a chain from India,Guess what none of our cooks got visa to Come to Canada.So we had to hire cooks from here and sent them to India to gwt trained .Pathetic

  2. hi, i want to know how to calculate points for cooks. To be honest, cooks usually don't get that 15 or 16 years of education but still they are very good cooks and they work tremendously. How come that they could fulfill the requirement of that many years of high education when they never did that. However about English, I have 7 bands. S, 7, Listening 7.5, Reading 6.5,and writing 6. I have that intermediate degree with 12 years of education and an experience of 5 years as a cook . How to calculate points and would anyone respond.

  3. Hi i am livinkg in the UK and me and my family want to emigrate to Canada however the jobs we have do not come under the 29 occupations. I am thinking of gaining a qualifiacation in cookery as i work in a healthcare sector as a daycentre manager for people who have learninging disabilities, part of my role is to implement healthy dietary plans for the indivuduals. do you think if i gained some sort of college qualification then i could apply under the cook occupation? if so what is the minimum qualificaion i need so i can do some kind of cookery work
